OVERVIEW
The grooved gaskets have a contact between the outer, thicker portion of the gasket and the area outside of the bead in order to prevemt further forward movement during assembly.
1) The sealing bead contacts the angle of the grooved section of the gasket.
2) The bead flows the gasket material forward and comes into contact with the partition part of the gasket at the bottom of the groove.
3) The thick portion of the gasket contacts the gland outside of the bead; at this point the contact area and friction resistance increase resulting in a noticeable increase in torque. This results in increased metal contact, which resists rotary action transfer, galling and stresses that could cause leakage.

Technical Notes for 1/4" and 1/2":
Fact: Over-tightening of the gasket is one of the primary problems with VCR-Style seals.
Problem: This over-tightening can cause rotary-action-transfer to be transferred between the gasket and sealing beads causing damage to the beads and system leaks. Even when anti-rotary-action devices are used, over-tightening can cause work hardening of the gasket and subsequent leakage problems.
Solution: Use our No-Overtighten Grooved Gaskets to help prevent over-tightening and leaks.
