OVERVIEW
Users of VCR style fittings have used standard, three-piece-swivel caps and plugs to seal the inlets and outlets of their systems.
Caps and plugs utilize the standard sealing bead of the VCR-style design, which is expensive to manufacture.
Sealing beads can damage one another when over-tightened.
Caps and plugs are not subject to the stresses involved in sealing other style fittings, making them suitable for use with flat gaskets which may have problems sealing in some applications.
Caps and plugs are often used with standard gaskets, which have orificies in them, requiring them to seal in two areas.
The orificies may also allow the silver/wax lubricant on female nuts to enter the system.
HY-TECH CAPS & PLUGS - OUR RECOMMENDATION!
Hy-Tech designs eliminate the expensive sealing bead in the standard caps and plugs by utilizing a flat surface on the cap or plug instead of the bead.
The flat surface is used with a blind, un-plated nickel gasket, which requires only one seal on the opposing VCR-Style bead instead of using two.
The blind gasket helps to prevent particles from entering the system during assembly.
The gasket hardness has been selected to minimize damage to the surface of the sealing bead.
The female cap may be coated with a proprietary coating instead of silver/wax to reduce rotary action during make-up. In most cases the coating is unnecessary.
Leak rates are comparable to industry standards.
